I Have a Dream for Christian Education
Enthusiastic proponents of Christian education share a desire with the Psalmist when he said, "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you" (Psalm 119:11, NIV).
By its definition, education implies changed behavior. Consequently, Christian education suggests behavior that reflects the Christian worldview. That can be accomplished only with the assimilation of God's Word into the totality of one's life. In the face of increasing evidence of biblical illiteracy, Christian education, with God's revealed Word as its foundation, is a major priority of the church. It must be thorough and balanced.
My big dream is for an integrated cooperative Christian education effort involving the family and the church. Christian schools and Sunday Schools should complement and reinforce principles and values that have been established in the home.
My dream for Christian education is for a superb teacher training program in every church and appropriate utilization of all available technology. We cannot allow the Word to be perceived as less relevant or dynamic because of the delivery system. Christian education embodies the most precious truth and the most important message in the world. The manner of presentation must be worthy of the content.
